"And here we have the crowning jewel of AppBrain: (...) app discovery." [DownloadSquad]
"Android Market website a step forward, still lags AppBrain." [ArsTechnica]
With fast web installer re-enabled, we're now again also providing the easiest way to install the apps you want. If you install the "Fast Web Installer" app on your phone, you allow AppBrain to push apps to your phone. In this way, you get the best of all worlds: the awesome AppBrain experience with the convenience of over-the-air installs:
The steps to take to get this on your phone are:
- Install the latest versions of both the AppBrain app and the Fast Web Installer app.
- Sign into the AppBrain app, enable the fast web installer in Menu > Preferences, and sign in with your gmail account.
- Go to http://www.appbrain.com/, find your favorite apps, and click "Install"
Notice that there are two caveats with the new fast web installer:
- You can not use this to get apps you otherwise would not be able to get. When you try to fast web install an app that is not available in your country or phone, nothing will happen.
- We do not get credentials to the "checkout" service, so it's impossible that we install paid apps for you.
Happy wireless app installing AND de-installing!
The AppBrain team.
What is the story behind this? Why did Google re-allow this? Why did they take it away in the first place?
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work. Can't install from appbrain on my desire hd. And the website gives me an error that there has been a problem sending the app to my phone.
ReplyDelete@Brian It's a mystery. Google's web market suffers the same 'security flaw' that was the argument behind shutting down the fast web installer previously. The fast web installer basically grants us the permission to push apps to your phone through Google's own market now.
ReplyDelete@Luka Did you upgrade both the fast web installer AND the appbrain app? Then use menu > preferences to enable the fast web installer, and then sync at least once.
Is your phone's primary email account the same as the one for the market? Please email us at info@appbrain.com to follow up.
I am having a similar problem as luka. I will send you the specifics in email to info@appbrain.com
ReplyDeleteNot working on the Desire Z; I get the message "There was an error sending the app to the phone. Please make sure you enabled it with the 'Fast Web Installer' app and then please try again."
ReplyDeleteBoth are up to date, enabled and synced.
Uninstalled until it's fixed....
Same as Luka.
ReplyDeleteBut then the android market doesn't work on my phone as well. :(
you can ignore my email. I tried installin a free app for a 3rd time and for some reason the 3rd time was a charm. Weird because both the 1st and 2nd attempt I did the exact same steps as the 3rd. Regardless, I am all good now!
ReplyDeleteI think I know why it didn't work the 1st to times. I had used a task killer to close the market and I think it needs to be running in the background for the fast web to work, could that be possible?
ReplyDeleteSo is this now something that's solid and sanctioned by Google? Or are we at risk of losing this again?
ReplyDeleteGoogle took the idea of FWI, so they allow it again to be fairplay ..
ReplyDelete@Mathijs I have upgraded everything there is to upgrade. I enabled it in the appbrain menu and it said it has been enabled successfully.
ReplyDelete@ luka I had issues at first because i did not have the market running in background. From what I was told by appbrain in email it has to be running. Is it possible you don't have the market running in background?
ReplyDelete@brandon It doesn't even make a difference if it's open and not in the background.
ReplyDeletehmmmm mathjis told me it has to be running in the background.
ReplyDeleteBut it doesn't work for me :(
ReplyDeleteI have the standard android 2.2 from HTC installed.
I am on 2.1 so not sure anything about 2.2. Sorry and good luck
ReplyDeleteI'm having the same problem as Luka. I've uninstalled/reinstalled both the AppBrain app and the Fast Web Installer, synced, and verified I'm signed in both in the phone app and on the website. In fact, under My Apps on the site, it even says "Fast Web Install Enabled". And whenever I enable it on the phone app, it says "Fast Web Instal enabled." I still get the same error every time I try to install an app from the AppBrain website:
ReplyDelete"There was an error sending the app to the phone. Please make sure you enabled it with the 'Fast Web Installer' app and then please try again."

ReplyDeleteSimply not working on GalaxyS 9100
ReplyDeleteNice, its working, but the COOLEST thing before, was that we were able to Install Paid Apps, and some not allowed on some contries. Specially outside US. Will it be able soon again? Or is it totally imposible now?
ReplyDeleteOMG.. Actually, I was testing it with Allowed on my country App, and its not working. It says "Your 'Fast Web Install' authorization has expired. Please rerun the fast web installer app on your phone." Ive done it 5 times.. Whats wrong?
ReplyDeletePD: I use SGS Captivate, and it was working before Android Market Update.
ReplyDeleteSame problems as @luca. If I initiate the install from the appbrain page it complains about not being able to send it to the phone and if I try to install manually from the appbrain app on the phone I get the black progress window which goes to 100% but the app is still does not install.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't work for me, whenever I use the website to install it gives me a sending error.
ReplyDeleteSame problem as DAVID, using Galaxy S 9100. I'm really looking forward to getting fast web install working again!
ReplyDeleteRebooted, synced, and now I'm getting the "there was an error..." pop-up window.
ReplyDeleteMy phone can't use Fast Web Installer.
ReplyDeleteI recorded a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ymJIAp_VYY&hd=1
Didn't work for me. Get error message: Es gab ein Fehler während die App aufs Handy gesendet wurde. Bitte überprüfen ob es mit dem 'Fast Web Installer' aktiviert wurde und dann nochmal probieren.
ReplyDeleteDidn't work for me either, just tells me it can't send it to my phone.
ReplyDeleteNo luck here either. LeoFroyo on Nexus One. It used to work...
ReplyDeleteBroken here too (Nexus S)
ReplyDeleteSamsung Galaxy S I9000 too. Fastweb not working.
ReplyDeleteNot having any luck with my phone either. Have reinstalled, cleared cache, logged out/in, etc. Web install and phone install both fail
ReplyDelete"Fast Web Installer is Back ! " No, it isn't, doesn't work on Galaxy S i9000 Froyo 2.2.1 ,quits with error message "There was an error sending the app to the phone. Please make sure you enabled it with the 'Fast Web Installer". Such a pity :( . Will it be fixed ?! I see im not the only one with that problem
ReplyDeleteStill doesn't work. Android 2.1 Samsumg Captivate Phone (AT&T).
ReplyDelete"There was an error sending the app to the phone. Please make sure you enabled it with the 'Fast Web Installer' app and then please try again."
Um. it IS ENABLED! I've done so multiple times!
I'd be nice to have a comment from App Brain about this...both my phones this doesn't work.
ReplyDeleteDoes not work on original Droid w/2.2
ReplyDeleteAs above:
"There was an error sending the app to the phone. Please make sure you enabled it with the 'Fast Web Installer' app and then please try again.
Nice post. Its always better to think before investing money in stock market. Investment should be done in share market but with the aim to increase our funds so speculation should not be the mode of investment. Investors should know why they are investing money in any stock.
ReplyDeleteRegards
Yup, busted over here on my Epic 4G running the recently released Froyo (EB13) update...and it didn't work before that either. It goes through the motions but nothing happens...I've enabled, disabled, logged out, ran the "Fast Web Installer" app seperately, rebooted, cleaned cache...pretty sure I've covered all the bases. So yeah AppBrain, what's the deal, don't leave us in the dark here...this was one of the two features (The other being the lists) keeping me from switching to the web-based Android Market...better to say "We're working on it" than to just let us all get pissed and leave your service for good due to lack of communication...but what do I know?
ReplyDeleteOk, so updating my response because now after installing ACS Frozen 1.01 it's working! Course I have no idea why the official ROM's and most of the custom ROM's don't work...
ReplyDeleteNot working on Samsung Galaxy S I9000. Would be nice if you guys would make a FAQ for that and tell the people what is going on and if you are willing and able to fix the Fast Web Installer for the SGS.
ReplyDeleteYeah, the installer works now on the SGS. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI had appbrain loaded on my Samsung and routinely did a sync. Last week that phone 'disappeared.' I received the replacement yesterday and assumed I would only need to load appbrain on the new phone to have the same set-up. Appbrain did not recognize me as a current user. Can anyone help me?
ReplyDeletedo i need to have androis market on my device? or what other market should i have as when i go to do a install i get the error "no market installed"
